VIRTUAL EVENTS ACROSS CANADA

where does your seed come from?

Seeds are not just the starting point of our food—they’re the result of generations of care, knowledge, and decision-making. They carry stories of culture, migration, adaptation, breeding, and resistance. The seed systems that produce our seeds, likewise, are complex—shaped by geography, labour, economics, policy, and culture. Yet, for many growers, the seed packet is the beginning and end of the story.

Our 2025-2026 webinar series, now concluded, invited farmers, seed growers, educators, researchers, and policy-engaged folks to dig deeper into seed systems by asking, simply, where does our seed come from? What would it mean to support systems rooted in justice, transparency, and farmer leadership?

At The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security, we work toward a future where farmers have the power to save, improve, and share the seeds they rely on. That means building a seed system rooted in genetic diversity, regional adaptation, and collective care.  This series is about holding space for nuance and building shared understanding of the systems that feed us. Via our recorded webinar sessions, we invite you to join us—with curiosity and care—as we shine a light behind the packet.  The following sessions are available on our Past Events webpage and YouTube channel.
