The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security
mdang@weseedchange.org

Michelle (she/her) has been planting culturally significant crops and saving seed in her family's backyard for as long as she can remember. This experience inspired her to pursue a MSc in Molecular Science with a specialty in botany at Toronto Metropolitan University, while also working at urban farms throughout her degree. Through her time both in the lab and the field, Michelle became especially passionate about how researchers can actually support farmers in making agriculture more farmer-led, ecological, sustainable, and accessible. She is also interested in incorporating cultural stories into the agricultural field to reconnect people with the land, seeds, plants, and food they engage with. As a Research Coordinator as part of the Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security, she hopes to collaborate alongside farmers, researchers, and other partners to make for a more resilient and sustainable seed system.
