In this episode

Thanks to our friends and collaborators at Grain on the Brain, the podcast for the Manitoba Organic Alliance, for this great conversation about participatory plant breeding. Host Scott Beaton talks to Iain Storosko (Carleton University) and Aabir Dey (The Bauta Family Initiative) about the Initiative’s participatory plant breeding program for organic field crops, and the policy implications of such a program. Iain’s research work highlights the work of farmer-plant breeders across Canada, as well as exploring the benefits of PPB and its potential place in Canadian agricultural research landscape. Aabir frames the program in the context of the policy challenges facing farmers and varieties coming out of this program and discusses the Initiative’s work in this area.
