Weijia graduated from Michigan State University in 2023 with a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and a specialization in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems (SAFS). Her Ph.D. research focused on the end-use seed quality of organic dry beans. Weijia brings to the position ten years of experience working with beans, including dry bean variety development, quality evaluation and analysis, and dry bean root rot disease resistance and root architecture study, either as a student or research technician. She is excited about exploring the characteristics of carrots as a root vegetable, the adaptation of carrots to climate changes through genomics approaches, and using the findings to facilitate breeding programs. Her future plans include work on developing crop and vegetable varieties that address the needs of growers in organic systems.
